Newsletter No.18 - 6th June 2013

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a peaceful half term and are all ready for a busy Summer Term.

Sports Day
Sports Day weather permitting is on Tuesday 18th June at 10am, if it is wet on the 18th we will try again on the 19th. We will be practising regularly before this, please ensure your child has their PE Kit and Daps that fit in school every day. Your child will know their colour team this week; if possible we would like the children to wear a t-shirt in their team colours.

Sun Hats
Now the sun is shining please send in your child with a hat. Thank you.

Bicycles & Scooters
Please do not let your children ride their bikes or scooters on the school grounds. We had a nasty incident when a 3yr old ran into an adult. Thank you.

Mid-Summer Fayre
WISH will be holding their Summer Fayre on Friday 21st June. This is usually a lovely evening. Please put the date in your diaries. WISH would be grateful for the following donations; screw top bottles, soft toys for tombola, prizes for tombola, cakes on the day and other alcohol bottles for the bottle stall.

Yr R & Yr 1 Trips
You will shortly be receiving letters regarding these trips, which are on Wednesday 10th July.

Yr 2 Devizes Visit
Yr 2’s will be visiting the Canal & Museum in Devizes next Friday 14th June. Please make sure you have returned the consent form, payment and booked a lunch if you are entitled to free school meals.

Changes to Holiday Requests
Please be aware that recent amendments regarding Term Time Holidays make it clear that Head Teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. If a pupil accumulates 10 or more sessions (5 days) of unauthorised leave of absence within a 6 month period, the school must notify the Local Authority and a Penalty Notice will be issued to each parent for each child where that applies. From the 1st September 2013 the penalties which Parents must pay are £60 will apply if paid within 21 days or £120 if paid within 28 days. If the penalty has not been paid the Local Authority will commence Legal Proceedings for the unauthorised absence.

Childcare Survey
Wiltshire Council is assessing the childcare needs of parents as well as their views on the availability and quality of childcare in their local area. The focus of the assessment is 0-14 year olds and up to age 19 for children with difficulties and disabilities. They have launched an online survey which runs until 30 September 2013 http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/parent-2013-survey.htm

School Jumpers & Cardigans
Now the sun is shining children are taking off their cardigans and sweatshirts. Please make sure they are labelled clearly with their name to prevent them getting lost.

Thought for Today
“Children cannot learn or achieve if they are absent, no matter how good their school and teachers” DFE May 2013

I will write next week with details of dates for the remainder of the term.

Best wishes
