Newsletter No.6 - 27th January 2014

Dear Parents, A huge plea!! Owing to the wet weather and the usual infant accidents we are very short of trousers, socks and pants. If your child has borrowed some from school please return them or if you have any spares at home we would gratefully receive them. Wizard of Oz - The Year 2 children have been invited to watch the dress rehearsal of The Wizard of Oz at Matravers on February 11th. The children will be walking to Matravers leaving school at 9:30am. School Uniform - Please remember we expect all children to be in school uniform including shoes. Library News - Westbury Library are celebrating National Libraries Week on the 3rd - 8th February, they are holding several events, all of which are free. • Visit Westbury Library during the week of February 3-8th and help us create a “Love Your Library” display. • For children we have a “We Live in the Library, Who are we?” quiz. Can you find the hidden pictures of the book characters in the library? • For the very young there will be a Love Your Teddy Bear themed Rhyme Time on Friday 7th at 11.00am. Bring teddy, come dressed as teddy! • And for adults, well why not go on a “Blind Date with a Book”, you might find something you will enjoy! • Love your Library, Love your Town by getting to know it more – join us at 10.30am on Saturday 8th February for a town history talk from archivist, Steve Hobbs. This is also a free event but spaces are limited so book your seat in advance from Westbury Library 01373-822294 • Throughout the whole month of February, customers will also be encouraged to nominate a friend or family member to join the library with both being entered into a prize draw to win book related items. Join in our special free activities. School Attendance - May I remind all parents that all children should be in school and ready to start the day at 9am. There are a small number of families who are consistently late; this makes life hard for both the child and their class. If you are experiencing difficulties please contact our Parent Support Advisor Bev Hall on 07540 725395. May I also remind you that the school has to call Attendance meetings and involve the Education Welfare Officer when a child has a poor rate of attendance. The Governors monitor attendance very closely. Last week 225hrs of education were lost through absence. New Mobile Numbers / Contact Details - If you had a new mobile for Christmas please let us know your new number. We would also be grateful if you could let us know if you have changed your emergency contact details (see overleaf). It is important we have your up to date details in case we need to contact you in an emergency. Thank you. Handy Person - We are looking for someone who has 2 hours to spare during term time to sweep up leaves, collect litter and to do simple maintenance tasks and generally keep Westbury Infant School looking good. If interested please contact Mrs Hedges in the office. Thank you.
