Newsletter No. 12 - 5th December 2014
Christmas has well and truly arrived at Westbury Infant School. On Monday morning there was a whole school assembly where the Christmas Tree lights were turned on at the end of a countdown! The week has seen performance practises, costume fittings and a lot of singing in the hall. The children are very excited about their performances next week and we look forward to seeing as many of our families as possible to watch. Christmas is a very special time, especially in an Infant School and we are trying to make this our most magical yet.
On Wednesday the year 2 children were able to experience a 'Polar Express' train ride across the hall, ending up in Santa's grotto where they all met Father Christmas. It was the most wonderful event and made possible by the hard work of the year 2 staff and Mr and Mrs Caldwell, who brought their train. Thank you so much for your help.
Last Friday the entire school were immersed in 'voting day'. The children in every class were voting for 2 representatives to join our newly formed School Council. We were thrilled to have Dr Andrew Murrison M.P. to announce the results. Our Chair of Governors, Jenny Clements, presented the successful candidates with a special badge and handshake. It was a fantastic occasion and photos will appear in The White Horse News and Warminster Journal shortly. Andrew Murrison also had lunch with the children and was very impressed by the school's successful implementation of Universal Infant Free School Meals.
The School Council members are:
Class 1 Eagles: Summer & Bethany
Class 2 Tigers: Alisa & Mildred
Class 3 Kingfishers: Lewis & Melody
Class 4 Hedgehogs: Chloe & Ben
Class 5 Ducklings: Paige & Lucas
Class 6 Bears: Sam
Class 7 Ladybirds: Lily & Tyler
Class 8 Elephants: Lewis & Tianna
The School Council will be meeting regularly to give the classes a voice in making decisions that affect the school and will be working on specific projects in the new year.
