Response to Parent Questionnaires October 2014

Thank you to all parents who took the time to fill out a questionnaire. This is a summary of your views and the action we are taking as a result of what you have told us. • Over 95% of parents agreed that our school teaches children about how to get on with others, to behave well, gives children praise for the good things they do, help build children’s confidence, provides a welcoming environment, has pupil toilets that are safe and clean, is free of litter, gives children free access to clean drinking water during the day and is a smoke free environment. • Over 90% of parents agreed that our school provides good communication between home and school, helps children feel good about themselves, teaches children about how to live a healthy lifestyle, teaches children about healthy eating, encourages healthier food options at break time and lunchtime and encourages children to be active in school and in any clubs offered outside school. • Over 80% of parents agreed that our school encourages children to get involved, celebrates all pupils’ achievements and provides opportunities in school for pupils to talk to someone about any worries they have. • Over 70% of parents agreed that our school teaches children about people from different cultures and lifestyles, gets involved in the local community, has developed specific home-school agreements e.g. homework, uniform, works in an environmentally friendly way and offers a variety of after school clubs and out of school activities. • 70% of parents said they understood the school’s policy on medicines and how children with special medical needs are catered for. To clarify, we are only able to give administer medicines that have been prescribed by a G.P. A form must be completed in the office. Children on antibiotics do not have to stay at home until the course if complete. • 50% of parents agreed that our school uses visitors to the school to make lessons more varied and interesting, but 50% of parents were unsure about this aspect of our provision. We do have a lot of visitors into school and usually inform parents about this via the newsletter. Since September 2014 we have had regular visits from clergy and the library. We have also had a theatre company visit, history drama workshops, art workshops, local councilors and our M.P. • 47% of parents were unsure if children have a chance to say what needs changing in the school. In response to this we are setting up a School Council with 2 representatives from every class. More news about School Council will follow in the newsletters. Thank you once again for your responses. Your opinion does matter to us and is vital in helping us plan school improvements. Stacey Budge (Head Teacher)
